Every house/apartment needs a good cleaning and de-cluttering periodically…what better time then before it gets cold and everyone spends more time inside?
This weekend, my roommate and I are going on a huge cleaning spree. At least, that’s the goal. As of Saturday night, we haven’t been home at the same time since this morning. Regardless, I am carrying on! In two hours last night and this morning, my clothes and books (the ones not in storage under my bed) got a good going through. There are now random piles around my room that look messy, but in reality have potential destinations: donation, sale, recycling, garbage, etc. Now comes the difficult part: what to do with them and when?
About a year ago, I did a similar de-cluttering and ended up with a trunk full of stuff for donation riding around with me for weeks… dare I say months? It wasn’t that I didn’t know where I was going with it, but that I never had to get it there! This time around, I’m fearful of the same thing. Thank goodness for a holiday weekend, but that only works if the places I need are open on Labor Day.
Does anyone else face this issue when faced with trying to minimize all the stuff we accumulate? Given that I’m trying to pay off student loan debt, I’d love to make some money off of all this stuff, but I don’t really have to time drive all over the world to various resale stores or to host visits from people interested in my stuff on Craiglist. Due to this, I’ve come to terms with the fact that the light at the end of this tunnel is less clutter in my living space.
The next step in this great adventure is tackling the storage unit on our porch… here’s hoping I don’t get buried!
