Friday Favorites

There are many things on the way to Friday that are worth celebrating – some big, some little – and they deserve their own time. I’m taking some time again this week to highlight some of my favorite things and to be thankful for more than just the fact that it’s Friday.

This week, some of my favorite things were:

  • The way God sometimes hits me upside the head with answers. You asked for guidance and BAM! there it is, so big there is no way you can miss it.
  • The rain, washing away the dirt and salt of winter and making everything lush and green. The fact that rain means it’s too warm to snow is an added bonus. So is the free car wash.
  • Wonderful coworkers who commiserate during hard times and who are excited to share their experience and insight when they hear you’re looking into a new frontier (the transition from a PC to a Mac is a big deal, folks, and it requires a lot of research. At least for this girl).
  • The anticipation of seeing my entire family in one place for the first time in 18 months! Plus the opportunity to spend some quality time with a grandfather I haven’t seen in 2+ years. The next time I post this update, I will be with them in sunny CA!
  • My incredibly giving, unselfish roommate who brought home chocolate and flowers completely out of the blue, just because I had a hard week. Aren’t the beautiful?

This week, some of my favorite things were:

  • The sun shining through the cold weather to make a bitter day just a little better
  • Layers and layers of warm clothes and thick (but fun!) socks to keep you warm
  • A car that runs with a heater that works!
  • Health insurance that allows me to make regular visits to the doctor, just to make sure everything is ok.
  • Quiet mornings at Starbucks savoring a scone and a hot beverage before going into work
  • The opportunity to pursue new skills and opportunities with good friends
  • Old-fashioned written correspondence and learning new things about your grandparents. These letters are valuable to me know; imagine how much more they will be worth someday when they’re not here?
  • Pushing through the doubt and voices in my head that say my dreams aren’t realistic to take steps toward making them come true anyway. And knowing that just two years ago, I would have let them win. That’s a little victory worth celebrating right there!
  • Letting myself take a step back and adjust to all the changes professionally and realizing that I’ve been given a great opportunity to learn as much as possible and to expand my own ways of thinking.
  • Libraries! What would life be like without the ability to borrow books? And that’s not even considering the fact that I get paid to be at one three days a week… Do you have any idea the things you books you get to see and consider when working at a library that you have no idea existed when you’re just a patron?

This week, some of my favorite things were:

  • Encouraging late night conversations with the roommate. I’m going to miss those!
  • The successful execution of a big company event. There were a few hitches, but the energy was good and people had a great time. A job well done!
  • Wedding dress shopping!! What a fun experience to watch my roommate try on and find her dress.
  • Getting to know a coworker better.
  • Discovering a great podcast about history which keeps my mind engaged while working at the library.
  • Talking to my sister!

This week, some of my favorite things were:

  • Hanging out with good friends and discovering new and humorous videos on YouTube. Plus brainstorming about possible vlog topics. Perhaps a video post is in the future?
  • Serving at church with great friends who look out for your safety. Thank you to Martha for letting me follow her home when the roads were bad!
  • Electricity. Having the power go out when it’s -30 degrees outside is not a good thing.
  • Taking control of my IRA and learning more about investing! It’s going to be a good year.
  • Lunch dates with coworkers
  • After six years of combining Christmas decorations, my roommate and I had to separate them in preparation for moving into different places this year. There are many other things that we need to go through, but the Christmas decorations were the first. Last night was both sad and exciting as we look forward to our futures but remember the great memories we’ve shared.
  • Quiet mornings spent with Janet, my wonderful mentor. She consistently encourages and quietly challenges me to be better, to focus on what is actually important in life.

Welcome to 2014! This week, some of my favorite things have been:

  • Extensive shopping with my mom, including the purchase of a Diane Von Furstenberg dress. One more thing to cross off my bucket list!
  • Golfing with my step dad. His patience with my ineptitude was wonderful! We only played nine holes on a par-3 course, but I’m happy with my 41. 🙂
  • A GREAT New Year’s Eve surrounded by wonderful friends!
  • Discovering the Lizzie Bennet Diaries… why didn’t anyone tell me about these sooner??
  • Related to the above: staying out until 4:00am watching nearly all of the LBD episodes with a great friend. Awesome memories!
  • Visiting wedding venues and helping my roommate make a decision on her wedding location. November 2014, here we come!

On this last Friday of 2013, some of my favorite things this week have been:

  • Turbulence on my flight to CA. Yes, I’m weird, but I sort of enjoy some turbulence. It’s like a roller coaster!
  • An amazing Sunday in San Diego which was my dream for how my Sundays might be when I move: Bar Method, church, and meeting someone for Starbucks in the afternoon. What a wonderful day!
  • The various people who have been supportive and encouraging of my plans and offered their suggestions.
  • Driving my step-dad’s SLK for the first time. It’s a really good thing I don’t own a car like that! I would have so many speeding tickets…
  • Spending Christmas Eve sitting outside in the sun reading in a tank top and capris.. That is how all Christmas Eves should be!
  • Great AT&T customer service.
  • Spending time with the parents hanging out, getting advice on my future, sharing interests, watching Mel Brooks movies and film noir.
  • Unseasonably warm weather in Palm Springs. Napping in the sun is underrated.

Friday Favorites

I realized on the plane yesterday that I never scheduled my Friday Favorites post! Not for lack of desire, but more because I was trying to wrap everything up before leaving town. So here it is, a little late!

This week, some of my favorite things were:

-Catching up with old friends and new ones at Christmas teas.
-The chance to enjoy more Christmas music performed by friends. First time I’ve heard the group perform since I was always one of the people on stage! Great experience and a chance to catch up with more old friends.
-Laughing and having fun while serving at church and hopefully encouraging others while doing it.
-Vision insurance that allowed me to buy prescription sunglasses for the first time ever…and just in time to escape the snow to sunny Palm Springs!
-Wonderful and talented coworkers and friends who help you out when you have too much to do by taking on projects you couldn’t finish.

In spite of the stress of packing, cleaning, and getting ready to travel, it’s been a great week! Merry Christmas everyone!
